One of the darkest days in Fiji’s Rugby World Cup history came yesterday when the Flying Fijians were thumped by Wales 66-0 in their last pool game.

Although in the 1991 RWC, we failed to win any of our pool games - the side recorded some points in their losses.

Last night for the first time ever, Fiji failed to score a point in a RWC game since the inception of the tournament in 1987.

It was also the biggest losing margin to Wales in the 11th international test between the two sides, where Fiji conceded 9 tries in total.

Last night captain Netani Talei said their plan to enjoy their game turned out to be a painful experience.

Coach Samu Domoni Junior said players committed silly mistakes which led to the high score line.

Meanwhile 2007 Fiji RWC coach, Ilivasi Tabua who recorded the only win against Wales in the last 11 Test matches said the loss was hard to swallow, especially knowing what had been achieved four years ago.

Now the road for the 2015 RWC will mean that Fiji has to go through the Oceania qualifying round.

Fiji will be in a tough pool along with two of the quarter finalists this year and also a side that finishes 3rd in the pool game.

Meanwhile, the Rugby World Cup quarter finalists have been confirmed.

Ireland’s 36-6 victory over Italy in Dunedin last night mean they top Pool C with Australia coming second.

The Irish will play Wales in Wellington on Saturday at 5pm.

France who are the runners up in Pool A will play England, the winners of Pool B at Eden Park on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Australia will play Pool D winners - South Africa in Wellington on Sunday in their quarter final at 5pm and the All Blacks, who took maximum points in winning Pool A, will face Argentina at Eden Park on Sunday night at 7.30pm.

You can catch the live commentaries of both games on our sister radio station, Viti FM with the voice of rugby Malakai Veisamasama and expert comments from Ilivasi Tabua.
