It is now moving in a south east direction. The intensity of the winds closest to the centre is around 165 kilometres per hour with momentary gusts to 240 kilometres per hour.
According to Nadi Weather Officer Deputy Director, Alipate Waqaicelua the area of hurricane force winds are close to or right over Cikobia Island or in the north of Vanua Levu.
Waqaicelua said the hurricane is now tracking a little more to the east towards the Lau group and Tonga.
Hurricane warning remains in force for the Cikobia, North-Eastern parts of Vanua Levu and nearby islands. A storm warning is in force for Kia, the rest of the eastern half of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby islands, northern and central Lau Group. A gale warning is in force for the southern Lau Group.
