Daman Changes Cause
Deputy Director Alipate Waqaicelua confirms that at 5 o'clock this morning, the cyclone was located around 280 kilometers North-North-West of Nadi or 180 kilometers North-North-West of the Yasawas.
A hurricane warning is now in force for the Yasawa Group, northern Viti Levu, western Vanua Levu and nearby smaller islands. A storm warning is in force for the northern half of the Mamanuca Group, northern half of Viti Levu, southern half of Vanua Levu and nearby smaller islands.
Over the rest of Viti Levu, the Lomaiviti Group, Vatulele, Beqa and nearby smaller islands, winds are increasing to damaging gale force winds of 65 to 85 kilometres per hour with momentary gusts to 90 kilometres per hour from this morning.
He said this cyclone can cause severe damage.
Widespread rain is expected to cause flash flooding of low lying areas, the flooding of rivers and streams and the sea flooding of low-lying coastal areas.
The weather office stresses that while the hurricane warning is in force, people must take all precautions.
The National DISMAC office is now fully activated and teams in all centers are on full standby and are monitoring the situation over the next 24 hours.
Dismac Officer Suva, Viliame Tuimanu said centres in Vanua Levu are now on full alert.
DISMAC have confirmed that there have been no evacuations at this point in time.
