Damages reported in north
Villager David Taulia said the winds have picked up with the young village boys heading out to tie down the roofs of various houses.
In Tukavesi:
Damages have been reported in Tukavesi in the north.
DISMAC officer Sitiveni Taki said the wind speed has picked up overnight though there is no rain at the moment.
He added that from his office, they have noted several houses without roofs and said that once the wind dies down, they will visit those affected.
There has been no change in the weather condition in Savusavu with residents reporting that rain has stopped but the wind has not died down.
Looking at some areas that are under a hurricane warning, in Koro, residents are now taking heed of the warning and moving to evacuation centres.
Waisake Bureso said they are now experiencing strong winds and heavy rain.
Bureso said they are moving to their community hall however there are no reports of damages.
In Lau:
Residents in Kabara and Moala are reporting that they are experiencing a change in the weather.
In Naroi in Moala, Post office staff member Semisi Vakacegu said that the wind has picked up speed.
Meanwhile, Nadogo Secondary School in Wainikoro, Labasa, has been opened as an evacuation centre and about 50 people are taking shelter.
Wainikoro Advisory Councilor Narendra Pratap said they are experiencing heavy rain and strong winds from yesterday afternoon and people have started to move to the evacuation centre.
A Delailabasa school teacher Vishwa Achari said a lot of their crops have been damaged.
