With Taveuni being the largest source of dalo for overseas markets, exporters are now hoping other regions in Fiji will be able to help them meet their overseas demands.
Initial damage assessment reports from Hurricane Tomas showed that the Northern division agriculture sector recorded more than $22 million in damages, $20 million alone on Taveuni.
Ben’s Trading Director Peni Moi who exports an average of 20 to 30 containers of dalo a month said they are looking to other farming communities to help meet their demands.
Moi said Taveuni alone would provide them close to 300 tonnes of dalo per month, and for the next few months they will struggle to source the same amount for export.
