A pretax profit of more than $355,000 for the 2007 financial year for the Rewa Co-operative Dairy Company Limited has seen the dairy farmers getting an increase in their current milk gate price.

Chairman Josefa Serulagilagi said that dairy farmers will get an increase in their current milk gate price by 3 cents from tomorrow.

He said the company despite the increasing global prices, and at time the unavailability of bulk dairy products, the 2007 records shows a 7.37% rise in sales compared to previous year.

However, he expressed concerns that the first six months of this year was very difficult for the company, as it was forced to begin the withdrawal of traditional farmer support measures.

He said the Company hopes for a favourable 2009 budget after the Interim Prime Minister earlier said that Fiji aims to be self-sufficient in dairy productions by 2015.

Serulagilagi added that there is a need to improve the basic infrastructure and any failure by the government can only result in the disruption of Commodore Frank Bainimarama's plan as a great deal of work needs to be done to have Bainimarama's vision fulfilled.
