DPP’s Office given last chance
Bhika's Counsel Mehboob Raza told Judge Justice Paul Madigan that they have fallen short of begging the DPP's Office for the disclosures, on the allegations that his client conspired to defraud the government in relation to the fraud charges laid against them.
DPP lawyer Saini Puamau then informed Judge Madigan that they are currently facing man power shortage at the DPP's Office, and apologised for the delays, saying a unit would be set up to ensure speedy delivery of such information.
Judge Madigan told the defense that he sympathises with them, however he must give the DPP's Office one last chance to provide the information.
He told the state lawyer that the DPP's office has now been put on notice that they must provide the information and the trial cannot wait for a Unit to be set up.
Bhika and former Agriculture Ministry Official Suliasi Sorovakatini are charged with allegedly defrauding the government in relation to the $16 million agriculture scam of 2003.
The case is adjourned to September 1st for mention.
