DPP Won’t Appeal Sentence
Ramesh Prasad, who was charged with murder by Nadi police, had his charge reduced to “causing death by dangerous driving” which he pleaded guilty to.
Prasad was charged after he drove over 18-year-old Kinijioji Kubunavanua on 11th September 2006. The court heard that he was unhappy with the deceased because his step-daughter was involved with him.
Prasad who was drunk, caught the deceased and his step-daughter at Lomaloma beach on 11th September. He was angry with Kinijioji and wanted to have a confrontation with him. He followed him in his vehicle.
He was driving about 80km/hr and was speeding. Prasad said he saw Kubunavanua and tried to apply brakes but his four wheel drive hit Kinijioji from the back resulting in his death.
