DPP Analyses FICAC Evidence Against Qarase
The Assistant Director at the DPP's office Asishna Prasad confirms that they have received the file from FICAC and they are looking into the file. She refused to comment further.
This comes after a directive was issued by the Magistrates court last week that the abuse of office charges against Qarase will be discharged if it is not sanction by the DPP by September 27th as per an earlier High Court ruling.
Meanwhile, Qarase's lawyer Peniana Salele confirms that she is preparing to file papers in court later this week that the abuse of office charges against his client be discharged.
She confirms that the grounds for the application is the delay by FICAC in dealing with the case, that the charges are not sanction by DPP as required and due to the civil case filed by Qarase in the High court challenging the legality of FICAC and its promulgation.
The case will be called on September 27th in the Suva Magistrates Court.
