The DISMAC Teams, Police, National Fire Authority and Government Officials are on high alert in the Northern Division and people living in flood prone areas are being advised to move to higher ground in light of the severe flash flood warning.
DISMAC Coordinator Northern Samu Saudranu confirms that their teams are now on the ground advising people that they should move while it’s still daylight.
Commissioner Northern, Inia Seruiratu confirms that strong winds have subsided but heavy rain continues. He confirms that several roads in Labasa and Savusavu remain closed to traffic due to flooding.
A resident and owner of Satish Motor Mart, Satish Kumar said people should be prepared because if the weather continues, there is a possibility that Labasa will also face flooding.
The evacuation centres which are active in Labasa are the Sangam Primary School, Naqai Community Hall, Bulileka Secondary School, Valebasoga Secondary School, Qawa Primary School, Civic Centre, Vunimoli Secondary School and Korotari Indian College.
