Cyclone Victims to get Assistance This Week
Speaking to Village News, DISMAC Director, Joe Rokovada said that assistance will be given first to those people who rely on agriculture as their source of income because from the assessment carried out they are the worst affected.
Rokovada adds that they will rebuild some of the homes which were destroyed by the cyclone and floods.
It is expected the interim government will fork out close to $50 million dollars following the assessment carried out.
The Agriculture sector is badly affected as close to $15 million dollars of damage has been estimated. Repair of damaged roads is likely to cost more than $10 million while damage to water supply has been estimated to cost $5 million.
The Health, Housing and Education are all estimated to reach $2 million dollars. Rokovada adds that the amount could increase as they still carrying out assessment in most of the interior parts of Viti Levu.
