A strong wind warning is now in force for Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Southeastern Vitilevu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
Nadi Weather office said Tropical cyclone Rene was located about 442km East of Lakeba at 3am today and is slow moving.
On its current track the cyclone is expected to cause strong winds over Eastern and Southern parts of Fiji.
Cyclone will not pose any direct threat to Fiji.
For midnight tonight South to South Easterly winds with average speeds upto 55km per hour and momentary gusts upto 80km per hour
is expected for Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Southeastern Vitilevu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
Occasional rain, very rough seas and damaging heavy swells is expected.
Mariners are advised not to go out to sea.
