Officials at the Customs Department and Police are working around the clock to try and establish how 2 kilogrammes of cocaine was smuggled into the country.

Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority Acting CEO Jitoko Tikolevu told Village that it is a serious concern and he expects an update on the matter by tomorrow.

Police Commissioner Esala Teleni confirmed earlier that police are now liaising with all border control agencies to identify why the drugs were not detected.

Teleni said he has directed that immediate action be taken to rectify the problem and he expects a detailed report by tomorrow morning on how to close these loopholes at the border control agencies.

Meanwhile, Police are still questioning the Mexican woman who was allegedly found in possession of 2 kilogrammes of cocaine and a Columbian national who is also in custody.

It has been established that the drugs were not manufactured in Fiji and Commissioner Teleni said the possibility that it was intended for the local market has not been ruled out.
