These were the words of former Vice President Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi while opening the 5th Pacific Regional Meeting Against Violence Against Women at the Naviti Resort this morning.
Ratu Joni told the participants customs have been used to suppress women and instigate violence against them which is an issue which must be collectively addressed.
Ratu Joni said the rule of law must be altered to ensure women are protected from violence under the pretext of customs, traditions and cultures.
