Nick Cummins is on his way home to Australia with his Olympic dream up in the air after suffering an ankle injury at the Hong Kong 7s.
He will be ruled for a month.
Australian 7s coach Andy Friend confirmed Cummins would return to Australia to begin rehab on his ankle after hurting it in his first sevens appearance in six years.
They had lost 34-5 to Fiji in the semifinals Hong Kong 7s.
Australia will face Wales, Argentina and Japan in Pool D at the Singapore 7s this weekend.
