The Chiefs who were part of the Bose ni Turaga have agreed that some cultural practices within Indigenous Fijian communities were a strain on the capability of most Fijians.
Interim Minister for Indigenous Affairs Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has revealed that the 125 chiefs at the Bose ni Turaga were briefed by the Institute of Fijian Language and Culture who made presentations on issues which are of concern to the modern indigenous Fijian.
The Chiefs were also urged to encourage better behaviour and respect from young Fijians especially in the village setting.
Meanwhile, Ratu Epeli has also revealed that he is planning to personally visit some paramount Chiefs who have opted not to be part of the Bose ni Turaga and oppose the interim government.
He confirms that he will visit the Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa, the Qaranivalu Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and the Tui Namosi Ratu Suliano Matanitobua in his consultations on convening the Great Council of Chiefs.
