The Crusaders will not rush Nemani Nadolo back into Super Rugby despite being available earlier than expected.
The Fijian winger will shortly return to New Zealand, after his side, the NEC Green Rockets suffered a shock loss in the knockout stages of the All‑Japan Championship.
Nadolo was the Crusaders leading try‑scorer last year, but assistant coach Dave Hewett said there is no temptation to put him in the side before round three.
Meanwhile, halfback Mitchell Drummond will start in their opening match against the Rebels, as Andy Ellis is still in Japan.
The Crusaders will play the Rebels at 6.35pm this Friday while the Brumbies will take on the Reds in Canberra at 8.40pm.
The Hurricanes will be hosted by Lions at 5.10am on Saturday while the Blues will face the Chiefs at 6.35pm.
The Sharks will play the Cheetahs in Durban at 3.05am on Sunday, the Bulls will take on the Stormers at 5.10am while the Waratahs will play the Force at 5.05pm.
