The Crime Free Secretariat met with the minibus operators this week to discuss issues pertaining to the Crime Free Suva initiative.

Secretariat team leader Inspector Anare Masitabua said they are targeting the minibus operators under the "People Focus" approach of the police force.

He said since a number of the minibus drivers have served time in prison, people have different views about them and police need to motivate these drivers to create a better and sustainable environment for all so that the society changes its attitude towards them.

Forty two people attended the meeting and the group included minibus owners, drivers, checkers and loading boys.

Police briefed them on the objectives of the Crime Free Suva initiative and Healthy Suva City programs, the Commissioners Intent, People’s Charter, Illicit Drugs Act, Code of Conduct, Dress Code and Traffic Laws.

Inspector Masitabua said the drivers were warned to make sure that their vehicles are not used for illegal activities such as trafficking of drugs.
