The Senior Medical Superintendent of the Saint Giles Hospital Dr Odille Chang today highlighted the importance for the Judiciary Police and Prison Departments to work together in creating more awareness and training on how to deal with the mental health patients.

Dr Chang who was speaking to the Heads of Pacific Islands Correction conference today said that mental patients should be accepted in the community.

She adds there is a need for a separate Unit within the prison block to look after the mental health patients who are convicted and remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, Dr Chang said the Judiciary Police and Prisons department should also invite the Non Governmental Organizations to assist in the program.
