Chief Justice Anthony Gates said the courts should not be used as political battering rams.
Following the appointment of four judges by President Ratu Josefa Iloilo yesterday, Chief Justice Gates said it should now be realized that the courts cannot deliver effective remedies for political disputes.
Gates also said the suggestions that no one should take up a position in Fiji's judiciary is illogical.

Gates and three judges Justice Davendra Pathik, Justice Daniel Gounder and Justice Sosefa Inoke yesterday returned as judges after being appointed by the President.
President Ratu Josefa Iloilo appointed the four under the new Judicial Services Decree.
