Former Police Corporal Solomoni Kuruveivalu today read out the interview statements of Peli Kete in which it was revealed that Kete had allegedly received benefits from Pita Alifereti who was the Director for Repina Wholesalers.
Kuruveivalu told the Court that upon questioning, Kete had allegedly revealed to Police that he used to receive cheques from Alefereti from which he bought groceries for his family, supported his vollyball team and hosted parties at the Ministry of Agriculture.
When questioned on how many times he had received these benefits, Kete is quoted as saying that he could not recall but he was told by his superiors to seek favors from Alifereti.
The Court was told that these cheques ranged from $200 to $500 and were cashed at MH Supermarkets.
Kete along with Alifereti and Josefa Tapele are charged with allegedly defrauding the Government between 2000 and 2001.
The case continues in the Suva High Court this afternoon.
