The management of the Lautoka City Council is expected to meet with their Special Administrator, Josefa Vucago next month before deciding on their next action on those former Lautoka City councilors, who have refused to surrender their taxi base permits.

Council acting CEO, Shiva Rajan said a meeting is expected in the second week of April after a number former councilors came under scrutiny five years ago for awarding themselves taxi bases, who still own the business and have resisted recent moves for them to surrender the permits.

Rajan said these councilors are claiming that they have followed all the legal avenues to get the permits and since they are no longer with the council, they said there's nothing sinister about them holding the permits.

This follows a letter by the Ministry of Local Government to the Land Transport Authority instructing that no further taxi permits are to be issued to the councilors.
