The Consumer Council of Fiji is calling on the government to look into putting tougher measures in place to see that more products come under price control.
Chief Executive Officer Premila Kumar said that people are already suffering after the global recession and the dollar devaluation and to top it up the prices of products in Fiji has reached the sky.
Kumar's comment comes after the Bureau of Statistics record shows that people had to fork our more money from their pockets for basically everything they bought last month.
These includes food items including vegetables, fish, yagona, dairy products, oil, tea, coffee, milo, cocoa, spices, restaurant meals and fruits which went up by 2.7%.
Higher prices were recorded for furniture, electrical and non electrical appliance, jewellery and duty free goods and the price increase stood at 4.8 % while private house rent and paints increased by 0.6%.
Heating and lighting went up by 2.0% while a 208% increase was recorded for some alcoholic drinks and warm beer.
Clothing and footwear prices went up by 0.8%, prices for new vehicles, fuel and spare-parts are up by 5.9% while laundry goods, medical goods, stationary and other household items recorded a price hike of 7.7% last month.
