The Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons said changing the name of Qarase House in Suva to Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons Building complex will give more visibility to the Council and the entire disabled community in the country.
Director, Dr. Sitiveni Yanuyanutawa said the idea to change the name of the house came about at the end of last year which was tabled in the council's meeting earlier this month.
He adds there was misinterpretation by some people that this was another residential place for people with disabilities and it took out the core functions of the delivery of the different affiliates of the council including the Fiji Vocational and Technical Training Center located at the complex.
The government decided yesterday to change the name of Qarase house situated at 3 Brown Street in Toorak Suva after a submission from the Social Welfare Minister Dr Jiko Luveni.
