The Wages Council has confirmed that while the implementation of the new wage rate was deferred earlier this year, their work on other industries which urgently need a pay increase is continuing.
Council Chairman Father Kevin Barr said one of the industries they are now concentrating is the mining industry.
Meanwhile, the Council has been assured that the implementation of the new wages order for nine industries will go ahead on the first of July.
The new wage regulation initially had to come into effect on the 1st of February but taking the global financial crisis into consideration, the government deferred the implementation to the 1st of next month.
The nine industries which are proposed to get a wage increase include the garment, hotel and catering, manufacturing, printing, security, building, civil, electrical engineering, road transport, wholesale and retail and saw milling industries.
