A standoff looms between the Lautoka City Council and the Fiji Local Government Officers Association as the Council maintains it is not in a position to give its workers a pay rise.
City Clerk Pushp Raj said due to financial crisis the Council decided to put on hold all pay increments this year for an indefinite period and Fiji Local Government Officers Association's perception is wrong.
However, Association President Rohit Singh is adamant that essential services in the Sugar city will be severely affected if their demands are not met and their 48 members go on strike this Friday.
