Member of the Constitutional Officers Commission Gavin O'Driscoll believes that Dr. Maurice Coughlan would have done a good job as the Supervisor of Elections.
After Dr. Coughlan withdrew from the post following revelations of his disbarment in 1992, O' Driscoll said in his personal opinion, the matter was irrelevant under the laws in Fiji.
The Constitutional Officers Commission is now in the process of contacting a second candidate for the Post of Supervisor of Elections and O’ Driscoll stressed that they will carry out a thorough background check to ensure that the situation, as in Coughlan's case, is not repeated.
