The costs to construct the Nadarivatu hydro dam increased by around $100 million following the devaluation of the Fiji dollar in April.
Fiji Electricity Authority CEO Hasmuk Patel said they now have to find ways in ensuring they are able to make the payments on the loan taken to construct the dam.
He said the government has stepped forward to guarantee the loan at the increased amount.
Patel also revealed earlier that the options they are exploring to shoulder the increasing costs to provide electricity include an increase in their tariffs or to apply for another fuel surcharge to be implemented.
FEA is expected to make a decision on the matter in the next few weeks.
