Cost of damages yet to be calculated
In Vanuabalavu, DISMAC has confirmed that school is still not normal in five schools in Vanuabalavu, namely Daliconi, Avea and Mavana district schools and Susui and Mualevu primary schools have been affected.
In Cicia, the Cicia High School science lab, boy’s dormitory, kitchen and dining hall has been destroyed.
Other primary schools that have been affected in Lau include Salia Primary, Uciwai District School in Moala, Navesi Primary, Fulaga District, Komo Primary, and Babasea Primary.
The teachers’ quarters are also damaged in the above schools and quarters in Adi Maopa Secondary School.
Apart from the classrooms, in Nayau District School, 11 toilets and an office are damaged and a school water tank is damaged at Keteira District School on Totoya.
Schools on Vanuavatu Island will resume normal operations tomorrow.
In Lomaiviti, the worst damage to schools is on Gau Island, where louvers, toilets and classroom roofs in Navukeilagi District School are damaged.
In Qarani, 14 flush toilets and 2 school kitchens need urgent attention and in Vione, the teacher=s quarters at Vanuaso District is damaged.
In Koro, three classroom rooftops were blown off in Kade Village School.
DISMAC has today confirmed that the damages to schools in Vanua Levu is still being assessed and they are still awaiting damage report from the assessment team on the ground.
