As teams continue to conduct on the ground assessment in affected areas, the cost of damage to infrastructure continues to rise.

In the latest situation report DISMAC has put the estimated cost of damage at more than $12 million in various sectors due to Hurricane Tomas.

The Education sector has recorded an increase in cost of damage to its infrastructure in the Northern division which now stands at more than $1 million compared to yesterday which stood at $76,000.

While the rest of the figures remain the same, the latest report includes Telecom which suffered $665,000 worth of damage to its transmitter sites, which had cut off telecommunication with most of the Northern Division during Hurricane Tomas.

Roads in the Northern and the Eastern division incurred damage of $8.6 million.

The Agriculture sector also suffered extensive damage with both the Eastern and Northern division recording losses of more than $1.1 million.

The health sector suffered $650,000 worth of damage to its facilities, while.

The Fiji Electricity Authority has estimated a total damage cost of over $311,000 for the Northern Division alone.

DISMAC said more updates are still being received as detail assessments continue.
