The Prime Minister's Office want Copra Millers Fiji Limited to recommence the buying of copra from coconut farmers in rural areas and outer islands immediately, after the company temporarily stopped buying copra a few weeks ago.

Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Parmesh Chand said the company made that commercial decision, as it has been accommodating losses in its operations over the last five years.

Chand said the interim government had a discussion yesterday with key stakeholders, Copra Millers, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agricultural Marketing Authority adding that there is some coordination to ensure that a win win situation is found so that farmers who largely depend on copra as a source of income would not be affected.

Copra Millers Fiji Limited Chief Executive Officer Sekove Bula expected to release a statement later today on the matter.
