Leslie Copeland will carry Fiji’s hope in the men’s Javelin while Eugene Vollmer falls short to reach the final in the men’s Triple Jump at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Copeland will have to throw more than 78 metres to qualify automatically or finish in the top 12 across the 2 groups.

The 26-year-old engineer was penalized for his first attempt, just stepping over the line as he launched the javelin, so no distance was recorded.

His next throw saw him throw a distance of 70.99m, closing the gap on the rest of Group A.

His final throw reached 75.59m, leaving him fifth in the group and ninth overall.

This saw Copeland qualify for the final however, he was not satisfied with his performance.

Meanwhile Eugene Vollmer would need to jump at least 16.40 metres for automatic qualification or finish in the top 12 positions.

Vollmer’s first jump saw him set an impressive 15.62m, marginally off his season’s best of 15.68m.

His second jump saw him improve to a distance of 15.79, a new season’s best.

Vollmer finished at thirteen place just one place away from the final.
