One of the hallmarks of the Fijian casino initiatives will be the introduction of controls to regulate access by locals.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has made the comment in response to statements made by the Fiji Council of Social Services Executive Director Hassan Khan.

Sayed-Khaiyum said the statements made by Khan are a publicity stunt that fails to address the core elements of the Fijian initiative for the development of the casino.

He said government had identified One Hundred Sands Limited company as the appropriate entity to run the casino because amongst other things, the company’s close ties with the Snoquamie Native American Tribe in Washington state which demonstrates its ability to operate casino within the parameters of tribal living, customs and protection of the vulnerable.

Sayed-Khaiyum said government is currently drafting regulations for Fiji’s gaming industry which will adhere to international best practices.
