Contingency Plans to Carry On As Long As Need Be
Speaking to Legend FM News in the last hour, Interim Minister for Public Service Poseci Bune said he has been given an assurance by the health officials involved that the indefinite period of the strike is not an issue and they will ensure that essential health services will be provided.
Bune has stressed that the interim government will not make any further attempts to speak to executives of the Fiji Nursing Association. He said the FNA Executives turned back on their word and they must now initiate talks, as the interim government is confident of carrying on the health services.
However FNA General Secretary, Kuini Lutua maintains that they are on strike for an indefinite period of time and the interim government has to come back with a new offer for the nurses.
Lutua also said since they will be on strike for an indefinite period, they have also started receiving financial support.
Interim Labour Minister, Bernadette Ganilau has confirmed that the nurses strike is legal.
Ganilau said all the proper procedures have been followed by the FNA.
