Consumers have been urged to be responsible when buying items from traders who come in to the country.

The Chief Executive of Consumer Council, Premila Kumar said they are concerned as these traders do not have any shops or offices locally and consumers find it very difficult to raise their complaints if they have problems with the products.

Kumar said local agents of these traders and the foreign traders should be aware of the fair trading laws in the country.

The call comes after the Council received complaints about some faulty products bought at such trade shows.

Kumar said their officials will be maintaining vigilance on these traders and will report any trading breaches to the right authorities.
