The consumers themselves are the most powerful tool who can take businesses to task if they are not treated fairly.
These are the statements of Commerce Commissioner and Senior Lecture in Law at the USP, Krishan Shah speaking at the Symposium on Consumerism and Market Economies yesterday.
Shah said while there are relevant authorities set up to investigate unfair trading, it is the right of the consumers to lodge the initial complaint and fight for justice.
Shah added hefty fines must be imposed on shop owners who are misleading consumers and this should be a continuous task.
The symposium continues today.
