The Consumer Council of Fiji has welcomed the announcement made by the Commerce Commission on the reduction of the wholesale interconnectivity call rates
Chief Executive Officer, Premila Kumar said before consumers were not able to afford the high charges and were not able to use the different mobile services.
Meanwhile, she also said that there is a need to look into mobile number portability.
Kumar said a mobile number portability allows a customer to keep his or her existing mobile number when changing or moving from one service provider to another.
Over three years wholesale interconnectivity mobile rates will fall from 23 cents to 11.5 cents per minute resulting in cheaper retail rates for customers.
