The Consumer Council of Fiji officers will be on their toes to see that traders adhere to Fair Trade Laws and consumers are not cheated in any way during the week long Hibiscus Festival.

Chief executive officer Premila Kumar said that the last six months have been trying times for the people of Fiji with the increase in fares and price of many items.

She said that consumer spending increases as the festive season comes nearer and during this time, the potential for unfair trade practices is higher.

Kumar is calling on consumers not to become their own enemies by failing to exercise their responsibility when shopping.

She said the Council will have a booth in Downtown Suva where its officers will work together with the officers of Prices and Incomes Board to provide people with advice and information.
