The Consumer Council of Fiji has commended the effort taken by the Commerce Commission of Fiji in reviewing the outdated Price Control Order of 1970.

Chief executive officer Premila Kumar said that the current process and method used by the Commission in using evidence-based pricing and costing from suppliers addresses one of the weaknesses of the old price control regime.

She said that the new price control order and the Commission’s new approach to price control where maximum price for the 24 items are clearly stated is appreciated.

Kumar is urging consumers to assist in monitoring the price control order as officers from the enforcement agency cannot be in each and every shop around Fiji.

She said that consumers should now be able to detect any overcharge made by traders and such cases must be reported to the Commerce Commission or the Consumer Council.
