Consumer Council Welcomes Move
Council chief executive Premila Kumar said the flag fall comes at a time of difficulty when people are struggling financially.
She also added that relief was given to taxi drivers when the interim government decreased the price of fuel two times last year.
Meanwhile, Kumar added that the Council's next move will focus on a reduction in bus fares as well.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Taxi Union general secretary will be seeking legal advice following the directive issued by the Interim Transport Minister Timoci Natuva to the Land Transport Authority to reduce the taxi fare flag fall tariff by 50 cents effective from the 5th of February.
Ram said he will be meeting with his solicitor and seek advice on how they could overcome this issue of the decrease in flag fall.
The Ministry of Works had issued the directive following the reduction of fuel prices and the interim government had decided in all fairness and justice to reduce the taxi fare tariff.
The amended taxi fare flag fall tariff will by effective from the 5th of February, next Thursday.
