The construction sector saw a huge drop in the second quarter of last year compared to the first three months of the year by $14.9 million.

The Bureau of Statistics quarterly construction survey shows that the total estimated work put in place in the second quarter stands at $51.6 million which is a 22.4% decrease from the previous quarter.

Of the total estimated value, $47.8 million was for work done in the private sector while $3.8 million accounted for construction in the public sector.

Work in place for new building and capital repairs also marked a decrease of $15.8 million during the same period and stood at $36.2 million.

The figures show that off the total amount for New Buildings and capital repairs were for non-residential buildings, with hotels, shopping and educational institutions contributing significantly towards this.
