The Consumer Council of Fiji is calling on commercial landlords to consider the plight of the public before they increase their rent for business houses.
Chief executive Premila Kumar said that what they have to realize, is that the public are the ones who will eventually foot the bill.
This is after revelations by Hot Bread Kitchen's manager Mere Samisoni that they are pushing for an increase in bread prices as their rent has gone up by 10% this year.
Samisoni also earlier revealed that they had 500 people employed in the bread chain and they needed the increase, as they were running at a loss.
However, Prices and Incomes Board chief executive Lusi Naimawi said that they have no jurisdiction as the rent-freeze for commercial rent was lifted by government, effective from January 1st of this year.
