There’s still confusion among the elderly and disabled citizens on which appropriate agency is responsible for the issuance of ID cards for discounts on the new taxi fare.
Under the agreement between the government and the Fiji Taxi Union on the new taxi fare increase, a 20% discount is to be given within the perimeter of 20km to senior and disabled citizens.
Fijivillage has received concerns on the non issuance of the ID cards.
We contacted LTA spokesperson Vera Wedlock who then referred the matter to the Fiji Taxi Union.
However, Fiji Taxi Union General Secretary Rishi Ram stressed that they will not be able to provide the services on a discount without the ID cards.
Ram added they are also monitoring the various complaints by its members on the increase in fares.
