As the new wage rate for 10 industries comes into effect from tomorrow, there is confusion on the actual rates of wage adjustments for the garment industry.
Mark One Apparel Managing Director Mark Hallabe has today come out saying that only half of the wage adjustment will be made for the garment industry tomorrow while the other half will be made later.
Hallabe added the Wages Council is aware of this and the workers should be educated on this.
However, Wages Council Chairman Father Kevin Bar clarified that this split of the wage increase for the garment industry was the deal made for the implementation of the wage rate in February before the deferment to July 1st.
Bar said this split in wage increase does not apply now adding the 20% wage increase must come into effect tomorrow.
