There was confusion this afternoon amongst the prosecutors as to who will handle the murder case of 26 year old Ashika Lata McCartney whose body was found in Deuba last Friday.

Suva Magistrate John Semisi had to adjourn the court proceedings till tomorrow morning after lawyers from the DPP's Office and the Police Prosecutors could not sort out who is to represent the state in the case.

Simon John McCartney appeared in court today and was remanded custody. He has been charged in relation for the death his wife Ashika Mc Cartney.

Meanwhile Police Prosecutor Inspector Bhawani Prasad told the court he was instructed by Police Commissioner Crime, Nasir Ali to lay charges of murder against the suspect and to prosecute the case.

However DPP counsel, Asishna Prasad told the court that she will make an application on a "nolleu proseque" which means they do not want to pursue the case today.

McCartney, was reported missing soon after she arrived in the country from Australia last month.
