Interim Local Government Minister, Jone Navakamocea wants a stronger tie between local municipalities and government to eradicate corruption within town and city councils.

He has raised concern on the misuse of Town and City council resources in various municipalities and investigations are commissioned by the ministry to filter out likely offences.

Navakamocea said if councils submit quarterly or monthly statements to the ministry than they will have the opportunity to keep track of how they are operating and thus it will promote transparent systems, procedures and processes upon which councils govern themselves.

He confirms that there are also discussions on the importance of training the council staffs on good governance and re-examining the procedure for electing councilors for various municipalities.

He added that there are a number of investigations been conducted and commission of enquiry instigated by the ministry and reports have been submitted.
