People in the Northern Division have been called on to report any suspicious act by any person within the vicinity of all major drainage infrastructures.

The call comes after the Labasa Drainage Board found that a floodgate in a farm in Vuo Labasa was vandalised.

The Director for Land and Water Resource Management Division, Lakshman Mudliar said that the farmer in the Vuo Drainage Scheme called last Sunday complaining of seawater inundation on his farm.

Mudliar said that upon thorough investigation, they found out that the trash rack which prevents debris from entering into the floodgate was stripped and removed while a piece of timber was wedged between the floodgate to prevent it from closing.

According to Mudliar the matter has been reported to police as such acts will not be tolerated which is seen as a criminal offence in the government's effort to bring about available land into production.
