Concerns Raised Over School Dropouts
The church minister from Qauia Reverend Jone Matanatabu said the problem is now prevalent in Fiji and the churches involved should ensure that the children are assisted to further their education or find employment.
Reverend Matanatabu said times are hard these days and children should be shown the right direction.
Matanatabu said he is started off projects to assist the school dropouts rather than using them to do spiritual work for the church.
The Qauia Methodist Church Minister said he has noticed in the Qauia area that a number of school dropouts are just being used to do house-to-house church work while no steps are being taken to send the children back to school or to find them employment.
Meanwhile the New Methodist Church's Senior Pastor, Reverend Atu Vulaono has defended the use of children as evangelists saying that the criticisms from the Methodist Church minister comes out of jealousy.
He said according to the bible teachings nobody has the right to stop any children who want to follow Jesus Christ. He asks what is the difference between these evangelists and the children who participate in Palm Sunday.
Reverend Vulaono said he does not want to debate on the issue but he feels that Reverend Matanatabu should clean his backyard first.
