Concerns Raised Bus Owners Not Doing Part
Speaking to Fijivillage, Chief Fire Officer Mark Reid said the Maharaj Buses fire incident at Volovoli, Sigatoka, yesterday afternoon was similar to the tragic bus fire incident in Navuevu which claimed the lives of 12 innocent people.
He added that the investigating officers will leave for Sigatoka this morning to conduct investigations.
It has also been established that there were no fire extinguishers in the bus.
Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama who was on his way to Suva from Lautoka passed the accident scene a few minutes after the bus caught fire.
Bainimarama confirmed to Fijivillage that some students suffered minor injuries mainly due to some of them jumping out of the burning bus.
Commodore Bainimarama then visited the students at the hospital and confirmed that some students were traumatized by the accident.
He said the bus was completely destroyed.
