Members of the NCBBF team should have consulted those who were involved with the preparation of the 1997 constitution while preparing the draft People’s Charter.
While raising his concern in the Public Forum meeting in Nausori, teacher and landowner, Tevita Vakabalea said the use of the word Fijian has become part of the history of the indigenous Fijians.
However, NCBBF team member Jone Dakuvula stressed that nothing will be taken away from the indigenous Fijians if other citizens of the country are also called Fijians.
These concerns were raised during public consultations on the draft People’s Charter in Nausori on Tuesday night.
